Leavenworth County Jail Roster
The official starting point for Leavenworth County inmate records is the Leavenworth County Sheriff's Office inmate roster disclaimer. That screen sends users to two roster categories: Current Inmates and 48 Hour Release. Current Inmates covers people who are still held at the Leavenworth County Sheriff's Office Detention Center. The release list covers people released from the detention center within the last 48 hours. The roster is free to use, and the research inspection did not find a login requirement.
The roster is a custody list, not a full criminal-history report. It can show a booking record, a mugshot when available, charge entries, bond entries, and a next court date when the profile has one. It does not replace the District Court case file, the County Attorney's charging decision, the Kansas Department of Corrections locator, the Federal Bureau of Prisons locator, or ICE's detainee locator. Sheriff Dedeke's office is the local source for county jail custody, but Leavenworth County has several custody systems in and around the same city.
The sheriff's roster page itself warns that charges and bail can change after court. A person posting bond or checking release eligibility should call Detention Center staff before relying on a cached page. This is most important when a profile shows more than one bond line, a no-bond entry, a warrant, a probation or parole hold, an extradition note, a sentence entry, or another agency hold.
Search Leavenworth County Inmates
The Leavenworth County inmate roster search is built around a simple name search, category tabs, sorting controls, and profile links. Start with the county roster when the arrest is recent, when the person may be awaiting a first appearance, when a bond question is tied to the county jail, or when the arresting agency was local. If the roster search does not find the person, check spelling, switch between current and released categories, and then move to the fallback channels.
- Open the sheriff's roster disclaimer and choose Current Inmates for present custody or 48 Hour Release for a recent release.
- Use Search By Name with the person's last name first. Add more of the name only if the result set is too broad.
- Use the Name, Date, Current, Released, and sort links to review the right list before assuming no record exists.
- Open View Profile to read the booking number, booking time, arresting agency, charges, bond, and next court date.
- Call the Detention Center at 913-682-5724 when bail, case numbers, or current release eligibility matters.
For records no longer visible online, use the sheriff's open records request form or written KORA request process. The online roster is the fastest path, but a records request is the right channel for copies, older booking details, booking photos that are no longer listed, and reports that are not posted to the public roster.
Leavenworth County Roster Fields
The roster interface is not a broad advanced-search database. Its useful controls are the name box, current and released categories, date/name sorting, and profile links. The 48 Hour Release category is important because recently released people leave the current list, yet may still be visible for a short period. The profile pages provide more detail than the result list.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Options / Format Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Search By Name | Text | Unspecified | Single name-search field; no wildcard instructions were located. |
| Name | Tab or link | No | Switches ordering or search mode by name. |
| Date | Tab or link | No | Switches ordering or search mode by date. |
| Current | Tab or link | No | Filters to people currently held at the detention center. |
| Released | Tab or link | No | Filters to released inmates; the disclaimer describes a 48-hour release list. |
| Sort Newest to Oldest | Sort link | No | Sorts by booking or release time depending on the selected list. |
| Show All | Button or link | No | Restores all records in the selected category. |
The sheriff's roster search screen shows the live list and profile links. The official Leavenworth County roster search is shown below from the approved capture.
The screenshot matches the documented search path: name search first, then roster category, then a profile page for the full booking record.
Leavenworth County Inmate Profile
A full Leavenworth County inmate profile can contain more than the result list. The inspected sample profile displayed a name, booking photo, booking number, age, gender, race, arresting agency, booking time, charge lines with Kansas statute labels, bond details, and a next court date. Other inspected profiles showed examples such as cash-only bond, no bond, sentenced status, court-ordered commitment, probation violation, parole violation, extradition, and sheriff's-office holds.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Name | Full public roster name, often in capital letters and sometimes with middle name or suffix. |
| Mugshot | Booking image displayed on the list or profile when available. |
| Booking # | Numeric booking identifier assigned during jail intake. |
| Age | Age shown on the roster profile. |
| Gender/Race | Demographic fields published on full profiles. |
| Arresting Agency | Leavenworth County Sheriff, Leavenworth Police, or another arresting agency. |
| Booking Time | Date and time in the roster's month-day-year format. |
| Charges | Kansas statute or local code, short label, and felony or misdemeanor level when provided. |
| Bond | Bond type, amount, and source such as Warrant, Court, or Statute. |
| Next Court Date | Appears when a future court setting is tied to the profile. |
Booking means the jail's intake record after arrest. A detainer or hold means another court, agency, or correctional authority may still claim custody. A PR bond means release on recognizance. A no-bond entry means that charge or hold does not allow release by posting money.
Leavenworth County Custody Paths
Leavenworth County is easy to misread because several separate custody systems share the same local name. The county jail is the correct place to check for recent local arrest, booking, bond, and 48-hour release information. KASPER is the Kansas Department of Corrections search tool for sentenced state-prison residents. The BOP inmate locator covers federal prisoners. The ICE Online Detainee Locator System covers immigration detainees.
| Custody Type | Where to Look | Local Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Recent county arrest | Sheriff's current roster | Booking, charges, bond, and detention center custody. |
| Released within 48 hours | Sheriff's 48 Hour Release roster | Recent release from the county detention center. |
| Sentenced Kansas prison resident | KDOC KASPER | State custody, including Lansing Correctional Facility. |
| Federal prisoner | BOP inmate locator | Federal custody, including FCI Leavenworth. |
| ICE detainee | ICE ODLS or facility phone | Immigration custody, including Midwest Regional Reception Center. |
VINELink is another channel for booking and release notification. The sheriff's VINE FAQ says Leavenworth County jail data is sent to VINE, but Kansas courts do not participate in VINE notifications for court dates or case outcomes.
KORA Record Requests
Kansas Open Records Act requests fill gaps left by the online roster. The sheriff's KORA FAQ says requests can be made in person, by mail, or through the web form, and the office must act on a request within three business days. The form requires requestor contact details, preferred delivery method, and a description of the information requested. It also requires acknowledgement of K.S.A. 45-230, which limits use of names and addresses from public records for certain commercial solicitation purposes.
| Item | Documented Amount or Rule |
|---|---|
| Case report | $5.00 per case report on the sheriff form. |
| Video or audio work | $30.00 per hour, with media estimates sent before fulfillment. |
| Response time | Action within three business days, with notice if more time is needed. |
| Possible limits | Exemptions can apply to criminal investigation, victim, medical, juvenile, or protected information. |
The county's broader open records page also describes written-request requirements and fee schedules. For jail records, the sheriff's office remains the practical custodian. For court files after arrest, the Clerk of the District Court is the custodian.
Booking in Leavenworth County
The county Community Corrections justice process describes the local path as adult arrest, jail if the person cannot post bond or is deemed a community risk, prosecution, and sentence. At the jail, intake creates the booking record and identifies the arresting agency. Staff screen identity, charges, warrants, property, safety, medical concerns, and classification needs before housing. Classification means the jail's housing and security placement process.
Kansas law also affects intake. K.S.A. 19-1930 addresses county jails receiving U.S., city, parole, conditional-release, and other prisoners, and includes medical-screening conditions before intake when a person appears seriously ill, injured, unconscious, or impaired. K.S.A. 19-811 places charge and custody of the county jail with the sheriff.
The booking charge is not the final court result. It may be an arrest charge, a warrant entry, a hold, or a charge later changed by the prosecutor. Use court records for formal charges and case status.
Jail Visits and Mail
The sheriff's Detention FAQ documents the main communication channels for the Leavenworth County jail. Visits are video-based through HomeWAV. Visitors may schedule through HomeWAV.com, the mobile app, or support, and the visitor support number is 844-394-6639. The sheriff's FAQ did not publish a fixed weekly table of visit blocks, so available times are controlled in the scheduling interface.
| Service | Channel | Official Detail |
|---|---|---|
| Video visits | HomeWAV | Schedule online, by mobile app, or through support. |
| Messages | HomeWAV | Messaging is available and costs $0.25 per message. |
| TextBehind | Use the inmate name, inmate ID, Leavenworth County Sheriff's Office, P.O. Box 247, Phoenix, MD 21131. | |
| Mail review | Facility review | After review, mail takes 24 hours before the inmate receives it. |
| Packages | Not accepted directly | The facility does not accept packages or care packages bought through commissary. |
Do not send money or schedule a visit until the custody location is confirmed. People transferred to KDOC, BOP, ICE, or military custody use different rules.
Funds, App, and Contacts
Jail funds use JailATM or the kiosk in front of the Leavenworth Justice Center. The Detention FAQ says the facility does not accept direct packages; funds are deposited so the person in custody can order commissary items.
